Fine art and Portrait Shoot with Eirene - 050522

For Cinco de Mayo this year, Eirene and I got together to do a photoshoot. This shoot grew from a self-portrait shoot that was started in March. You can see that here. I bought the feathers in a costume design shop here in NYC. I was looking for vibrant colors and colors that would go together well because I am planning on expanding this series with a few other models. The colors as of now are pink, orange, and turquoise.

To start, Eirene and I picked out the best color that we felt went with her skin tone and we chose the orange. For the shoot Eirene’s makeup was kept very clean and her hair was kept natural.

The concept behind this photo shoot

This fine art photo shoot / portrait shoot is a reflection on femininity, softness, and radiance. I want it to reflect the beauty of being a woman, the power of being soft and the radiance that comes from being grounded in who you are.

The feathers in this shoot were taken from inspiration from the Phoenix. If you have read some of my other blog posts you may have heard me reference this mythological bird before. It’s an immortal bird that lives on through cycles of combusting and rising from it’s own ashes. I love this bird so much because I feel it relates so much to our human experience. No matter what we go through, we always have the power within us to rise again and to create who we want to be.

Let me be a feather

Strong with purpose

Yet light at heart

Able to bend

Living forever through portrait photographs

One of the reasons I love being a photographer is because there is a quality of immortality that I believe photographs give people. Especially when you are in a portrait photography session there is so much of you/your essence/your being that is present and shows up for the shoot that to capture that and have it held in a photograph is such a priceless gift. Especially when you think about how often we change throughout our lifetimes, not just physically but mentally, spiritually and experientially, to have ourselves photographed during each phase of who we are is such a privilege for us to be able to reflect on who we were, are and have grown into while we are still growing and evolving. And then have a way to pass down that remembrance of who we were to those we love.

How a portrait photography sessions feels

A portrait photo shoot is a time that is all about you. The focus is all about you and everything is catered to what you want and making you feel, look and have the best experience. It’s a space where you can slow down and express who you are, how you feel in a way that you don’t always get to do in your day to day life. A portrait photography session is an experience that reminds you that you are your own person, your joy matters, your experience of life matters, you taking time for yourself matters, and how you express matters, because self-expression is a medicine. We may not always know why we want to dress a certain way or move a certain way, but trusting that call allows you to say “yes” to that part of yourself that wants expression. A portrait session allows you to water the parts of you that can’t be watered any other way.

A portrait photo shoot is for you to relax

When we have a photo shoot experience together it will allow you to sit back and be well cared for. From guidance getting ready for your shoot date, help with what to wear to posing guidance, you will be in great care. The preparation and care you will receive will also instill a great sense of relaxation during your photo shoot. To be gifted a day where it is just about you is a day that you deserve.
